Sackets Harbor Battlefield honored in National Photo Contest

Posted in : In the News on by : warof1812

Congratulations to one of our partner organizations! The Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site’s photo submitted to the 2017 National Recreation Trails Photo Contest won a top honor as one of the 19 winners out of 275 entries. The photo features three of the site’s seasonal War of 1812 interpreters (laundresses) holding “My Soldier Discovery Cards” used during the June 3rd National Trails Day interactive program. The National Park Service recognizes the Sackets battlegrounds as a significant War of 1812 site. The Sackets Harbor Battlefield History Trail was designated as a National Recreation Trail by the US Department of the Interior in June 2015. Ten interpretive panels along the loop trail tell the site’s story, the pivotal role played during the War of 1812 and the Navy presence afterward.
